About Sheila
I’m Sheila Brevard. I was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and my work has taken many forms over the years. I’ve worked in law enforcement, education, writing, and business support, and each chapter has shaped how I listen, observe, and communicate clearly. My background in law enforcement gave me a grounded understanding of people and complexity, while my work in education and writing helped me turn that insight into clear, thoughtful communication.
Storytelling sits at the center of what I do. I’m the author of Under the Purple Sun, a novel rooted in mystery and suspense, and When a Loved One Is Deported: A Step-by-Step Guide for Families Coping with Separation, a practical and compassionate resource for families navigating separation. Across fiction and nonfiction, my focus is always clarity, humanity, and meaning.
The work
I work with individuals and organizations through Virtual Solutions HQ, supporting writing, content development, learning design, and structured project work. Whether I’m helping shape a narrative, refine a voice, or organize ideas into usable content, my approach is steady, collaborative, and grounded in purpose.
Background and education
My professional training includes a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Global Training and Development, a Master’s degree in Creative Writing and English, a Bachelor’s degree in African Studies from Howard University, and an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice. Education matters to me, but how knowledge is applied matters even more.
Beyond the work
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, exploring museums and galleries, experimenting in the kitchen, spending time with a good book, and finding quiet moments in nature or a coffee shop. Those spaces often inform my best thinking and writing.
